Dr. Kathleen McHugh is a licensed psychologist who treats a wide variety of issues, including problems with relationships and divorce, depression, anxiety and mood disorders, parenting, and women's issues. One area of expertise is working with survivors of domestic violence and other trauma, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Dr. McHugh also has extensive experience providing treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in children, adolescents, and adults. This includes cognitive-behavioral techniques and exposure and response prevention. She has a particular passion for helping children overcome OCD.
Dr. McHugh is experienced at administering psychological testing to help diagnose psychological disorders. She has performed psychological evaluations for forensic purposes, such as competency, psychological injury, and criminal mitigation.
Dr. McHugh's practice style is primarily cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused and insight-oriented. Her patients find Dr. McHugh to be a comforting, caring influence.
Dr. McHugh earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida, and master's and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from Marquette University.
She has been certified as an expert witness by courts in Brevard, Volusia, Seminole and Orange counties. Dr. McHugh is a member of the Florida Psychological Association, The Collaborative Family Law Group of Central Florida, and the International OCD Foundation. She has also provided on-air commentary and insight on various psychological issues on WESH-TV, WKMG-Channel 6, WFTV-Channel 9, CFN13 News and WOFL-FOX35.
